American guitarist, singer and songwriter whose Bo Diddley beat bridged Chicago blues and early rock and roll. Known for a swaggering vocal style, tremolo-heavy guitar, and the rectangular Gretsch “Twang Machine,” he influenced generations from the British Invasion to punk.
