Deathspell Omega

Calling it "Progressive Black Metal" undermines it; what they do is not a genre, it's pure madness (just think about how in some songs there are scores that then completely disappear), mixed with rigidity. It's like dismembering the body to dissect the soul and transform it into music, transcendental yet angry. All the albums are commendable, but the true gems can be found in: "Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice," "Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum," and "Paracletus."

Deathspell Omega

Deathspell Omega is a French avant‑garde black metal collective formed in 1998 in Poitiers. Renowned for complex, dissonant compositions and rigorously theological, metaphysical lyrics, they reshaped black metal with the trilogy spanning Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice (2004), Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum (2007) and Paracletus (2010). They are associated with the label Norma Evangelium Diaboli and maintain an anonymous lineup.
