A hearty minestrone with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Procol Harum. Plus, a generous dose of choruses and vocal harmonies à la Beatles and half a ton of overdubs that make the sound so thick and massive that Spector's wall of sound is like tissue paper in comparison. Always too full, they never understood that music is also made of emptiness, pauses, and rarefied moments. What a shame, because they knew how to write valid pieces.
