Tony Joe White

He was born in Oak Grove, Louisiana. The revelation came when 16-year-old Charles, the oldest of the 7 White brothers, brought home an album by Lightnin' Hopkins. From that moment, blues rock was and is his home. No one sings like him - he has an inimitable baritone, dark as the Southern swamps - and his songs ("Rainy Night in Georgia," "Polk Salad Annie," "Steamy Windows"...) have entered the repertoire of Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner, and splendor saying.
