I used to listen to them a lot. I have to stand up for them: they have never called themselves metal, as far as I know; it’s others who have labeled them that way. To me, they play a kind of rock that is sometimes "pandering," sometimes melancholic (the so-called "goth" or "dark" side), and sometimes a bit more pumped up (the elusive "metal" part), all sprinkled with a strong catchiness. I don’t think they’re that bad. I listen to them very little now, but I don't see a reason to spit on them. And then there’s Amy Lee.. _

Evanescence

Evanescence are an American rock band centered around vocalist/pianist Amy Lee, known for blending heavy guitars with piano/strings and gothic-leaning atmospheres. They broke worldwide in 2003 with Fallen and later shifted styles across The Open Door (2006) and the self-titled Evanescence (2011), with notable lineup changes discussed heavily by reviewers.
