Sergej Ejzenstejn (commonly known in English as Sergei Eisenstein, 1898–1948) was a Soviet film director and film theorist, noted for Battleship Potemkin (1925) and Ivan the Terrible. He is widely recognised as a pioneer of montage techniques.
