Lester Young

Lester Young (1909–1959) was an American tenor saxophonist whose light tone and relaxed phrasing shaped modern jazz. He rose to fame with Count Basie, was nicknamed “Pres” by Billie Holiday, appeared in Jammin’ the Blues, and recorded extensively for Norman Granz’s labels, including Verve.
