The fact that she has retired from the spotlight, continues to record albums, and, as they say, has become overweight, makes me think of her as a cross between Glenn Gould and the phantom of the opera. Publicly, she has ceased to be a woman and has become merely a voice.

A major TV and chart presence in the 1960s–70s, she retired from live performance in 1978 but continued releasing acclaimed recordings.
