David Sylvian

For me: the greatest singer of all time (not to mention the Sylvian-composer, which could warrant a chapter of its own). No phenomenal range, no display of empty technique, simply: an unparalleled mastery - and interpretive awareness. The ability to modulate the voice in infinite nuances: the rendition of pieces like "Wave," "Before The Bullfight," "Ghosts," "Brilliant Trees" is something beyond human.

David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt) is an English singer-songwriter and former leader of the band Japan who developed a solo career spanning art rock, ambient and experimental music. He is known for a distinctive baritone voice and collaborations with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto and Robert Fripp.
