Henry Threadgill may be the living musician who best embodies the spirit of perpetual search and experimentation of the jazz musician/composer (Ellington, Mingus, Sun Ra, Braxton). Avant-garde and the recovery of American, Caribbean, and Asian folk sounds are integral parts of his "ancient towards the future" music, often strongly rhythmic, kinetic, acid, and always surprising and original. Music that demands attention, always in a state of change. An underrated giant.
