Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was one of the greatest masters of orchestration and probably the most important among the members of the "Mighty Handful." Profoundly distant from the often frivolous cosmopolitanism of Tchaikovsky, he managed to create pages of astonishing foresight.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844–1908) was a Russian composer of the late Romantic period, known for orchestral colour, opera, masterful orchestration and his role as a teacher and member of the Russian nationalist group "The Five."
