Claude Debussy (1862–1918) was a French composer and a leading figure of musical Impressionism. He transformed harmony, color, and form in works such as Pelléas et Mélisande, La Mer, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, and the piano Préludes and Suite bergamasque.
