Ella Fitzgerald was an American jazz singer celebrated for immaculate intonation, phrasing, and scat singing. Nicknamed the First Lady of Song, she recorded landmark Song Book albums for Verve and collaborated memorably with Louis Armstrong. A multiple Grammy winner, she remains a defining voice of 20th-century vocal jazz.
