they have the demerit of having kicked off the most disgusting myriad of junk bands (but also see thrash) that the alternative scene can remember. I admit they wrote some great lyrics and Schuldiner is now a legend.

American death metal band founded and led by Chuck Schuldiner, widely regarded as a pioneering and highly influential act in death metal. Active primarily from 1983 until 2001; Schuldiner died in 2001.
