A highly regarded pop-rock singer and songwriter between 1969 and 1975, with at least 4 pop masterpieces (the self-titled, Tumbleweed Connection, Madman and Captain Fantastic) and another 4-5 excellent albums (Empty Sky, Caribou, Goodbye Yellow, Don't Shoot Me, Honky Chateau). Then a bit inconsistent in the second half of the '70s, hardly salvageable in the '80s (except perhaps for 2-3 decent albums), in the '90s he alternated great works (Made in England) with duds (Big Picture). Surprisingly in good form in the '00s.
