Mayhem

It makes me smile a bit to see how easily and knowingly the most important elements of the 2nd wave are dismissed, as if it were target shooting. Very simply, groups like Mayhem have been at least fundamental for black metal. End of story. Take it or leave it. That they were shitty people and had ridiculous stories (even though personally I couldn’t laugh about someone’s suicide) is not my concern; I leave the gossip to those who deal with it.

Mayhem

Mayhem is a Norwegian extreme metal band widely cited as a foundational act in Norwegian black metal. Their early history and the 1994 album “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” are central to their reputation, alongside later-era releases that split listeners between tradition and experimentation.
