Ray of Light

"Ray of Light" has been and will forever be one of the masterpieces of pop culture.

That being said...

"Ray of Light" is the second single by Madonna from the album of the same name released in 1998. The song is based on the song "Sepheryn", which was originally composed by Clive Maldoon and Dave Curtiss. William Orbit reproduced the track before working with Madonna. Madonna changed part of the lyrics and music. In an interview, Madonna stated that the track initially had a duration of 10 minutes but had to cut it to fit it on the album. The single sold half a million copies in the USA (#5) and reached #2 in the UK.

There are few songs that give you chills (at least for me), and "Ray of Light" is one of them. Considering it the only cheerful song on the album, it does not disappoint expectations. The intro with two guitars (on first listen) makes you think that the song will rely on that style for its entire duration, but after 20 seconds the electronic elements come in, and that's where everything begins. With an (almost) poetic text, "Ray of Light" transports you, making you forget everything else. Her voice has never been so beautiful, reaching very high notes, as in the chorus. Electronic beats serve as the backdrop for the entire track while the echo of her voice floats among the sounds conceived by that damned genius William Orbit. - Quicker than a ray of light, she repeats several times, only to disappear into chaotic electronic sounds; to return to what she gifted us at the beginning, with those guitars. - AND I FEEL, and everything restarts with a great use of synthesizers. A final scream takes us to the climax, and the last two phrases of the track summarize the whole song:
- Quicker than a ray of light, I'm Flying... Quicker than a ray of light, she's flying

Ok... maybe I got carried away by emotions, but for me, this track represents everything. I feel this song is mine, and it will be forever.

A small note of respect for the wonderful video.
According to critics (and myself), it is one of Madonna's best videos.
Despite being a decidedly simple video. Madonna dances against the backdrop of images of a typical daily life only to find herself in a nightclub.
The video won numerous and well-deserved awards (such as at the video music awards):
