Forget the lyrics Madge sang about in "Erotica" and listen to what Madonna wants to tell us with this new album. This album is about a return; the return of a woman battered by what "Sex" and "Erotica" were. She has no regrets, no shame, and she's not sorry for what happened. In this album, she puts her life, love, and fame on the line.
Despite everything, Madonna continued to exploit her sexy and provocative image.
The music of this record is more sophisticated, with more refined atmospheres. Its style is still sensual with a platinum blonde look. Her "Bedtime Stories" are beautiful songs put together with art and taste.
If you take a moment to read the credits of this album, you'll find many illustrious surprises; like Bjork, Dallas Austin, Dave Hall, Nellee Hooper, and the notorious Babyface.
It's an album with decidedly sensual peaks (Secret, Forbidden Love, Inside of Me, Take a Bow) and truly successful experiments (Bedtime Story, Sanctuary, Human Nature). Perhaps there are too many ideas, due to the multitude of producers who worked on the album, but it succeeds in its intent.
The book of tales opens with an anthem to survival (Survival) and closes with a sad farewell (Take a Bow, Madonna's biggest hit in the United States).
