They started making waves back in 1979 and did so with an epochal album, that One Step Beyond that everyone knows, which is still one of the best things you can listen to today. A lot of water has passed under the bridge, but they're still there to entertain, still as goofy as ever, still the same (except for the bassist who embarked on a decent solo career) with the added cohesion achieved during full COVID times, which is the real added value of these new Madness. Of course, by now they've all surpassed 60 years old and a bit of the primal energy has subsided, but they remain one of the best bands performing on stages around the world. For their 13th album, they decided to stage a sort of theater of the absurd with a concept album. Obviously, you shouldn't expect the explosiveness of their origins, but the six still have a lot of energy to spend. The album is a sort of rock opera in three acts where the usual sarcastic lyrics are not lacking, the arrangements are always daring, as indeed is the entire work, and those lethal rhythms that we love so much are not missing. In short, Suggs and company spare no one, they continue to snipe with irony at those who lead their country, they keep dragging us into kaleidoscopic and disjointed dances with an added 45 years of experience, which doesn't hurt at all. So let's listen to them and have fun, because, in the end, this world of ours is nothing but a great theater of the absurd.
