Machine and the Synergetic Nuts

Musical Group

Formed in Tokyo in 1997, Machine and the Synergetic Nuts are a jazz-rock/progressive group praised for blending Canterbury-style influences with energetic, original compositions. Core members named in DeBaser reviews are Masahide Hasegawa (Mahi-Mahi) on saxophone, Noriya Iwata on keyboards, Hiroyuki Suzuki on bass, and Toshiaki Sudoh on drums.

Two albums reviewed on DeBaser: the self-titled debut and Leap Second Neutral. Guest musicians on Leap Second Neutral include Matsue Jun (guitar) and Takahashi Yuko (percussion).

Two detailed, highly positive reviews by Giona praise Machine and the Synergetic Nuts' inventive mix of jazz-rock and Canterbury-style prog. The band formed in Tokyo in 1997 and released a self-titled album and Leap Second Neutral, both lauded for technique and chemistry. Guests appear on the second album, expanding the sound.

For:Listeners who enjoy Canterbury-influenced progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion, and technically accomplished ensemble playing.

The fact remains that Machine and the Synergetic Nuts are one of the most ingenious bands of our time, and my description of their first recording effort is nothing more than a tribute to the four guys from Tokyo who managed to create such an explosive and original mix of jazz-rock and progressive Canterbury style that it enjoys my (and certainly not only my) perpetual admiration.

However, despite the freshness of ideas and the chemistry between the band members, it will take another two years to reach their true masterpiece with "Leap Second Neutral".
