MAC & THE BEE - One Of The Two
(Self-production)
Electro and rock. Beats and guitars. It's the trendiest combination in recent years. Rock, many say, is dead. Listening to the myriad of insipid bands (both Italian and Anglo-American, mind you) found online, one couldn't agree more. So, some try to forge new paths. Electronics is undoubtedly one of these. The electronics of the '90s have certainly created a dividing line between grunge and rock as we think of it today, in the new millennium. Mac & The Bee are among the many attempting to ensure that the fusion of rock and electronics makes sense. And we must acknowledge the Sardinian band, with this new album, for having fully succeeded. The rhythms, which clearly pay tribute to the various facets of the '90s electro scene (breakbeat, electro, drum'n'bass, trip hop), are well-crafted, by true "supercool" soundboys like DJ Shadow or Roni Size. And alongside this rhythmic framework, they play with an arsenal of indie rock and, at times, kraut (the analog keyboards) of high respect, making this album an Italian electro rock gem not to be missed.
