THE REVIEW

Excellent double LP that encapsulates the essence of the band, two years after the tragic accident that jeopardized its existence.

Thirteen tracks are uniformly drawn from all the studio albums recorded from 1973 to 1977, while the remaining three tracks are retrieved from the legendary live album One More from the Road, including the well-known Free Bird.

Some uncomfortable absences may cause some annoyance, but it could be a good excuse to revisit the original albums.

Moreover, the compilations of the decades could be much more substantial, even spread over double Compact Discs, but with the risk of containing material from later decades that might not be of interest or, worse, be of inferior quality compared to their “golden age” production.

In conclusion, “Gold & Platinum” is a collection with the merit of its publication date, right after the tragedy and well ahead of the “reunion(s)” of the following years.

A collection, whether for newbies or completists, that ideally closes the band's seventies.
