After listening to "Chicago, Detroit, Redruth," if you're driven by even a tiny sense of critical awareness, you can't help but acknowledge that Luke Vibert has composed a work decidedly below his potential and, above all, terrible!

There's no need to bring up his associations with Aphex Twin, the numerous albums released (under a significant number of different names), the rightful recognition, and the merits he has been accorded for what genuinely good he has been able to do in the past, because the twelve songs are the most anonymous I've listened to this year (perhaps only the latest Chemical Brothers album is worse). The choice to mix and juxtapose sound periods distant in time, even if akin through the electronic sounds proposed (dance, soft drum'n'bass, electro, downtempo, acid, etc.) and with a common vintage feeling, resulted in a disaster, not to mention that some pieces have a hint of fusion that makes you shudder.

Consider it an experiment gone wrong or a misstep, but stay away from it, because it is indeed a downright "rip-off."
