LA RECENSIONE

Dark Sky is an interesting group that emerged from the boundless, immense, and (in many cases) pointless underground of melodic German rock that formed in the '80s and still today produces bands with moderate national success annually.

The main characteristics of Dark Sky are simple to list: they neither add nor take away anything from the history of music, the hugely amplified riffs are often predictable and are repeated throughout the album, the lyrics primarily talk about love and betrayal, and the melodies are memorable after the first listen. In short, like all those semi-unknown German AOR bands, however, Dark Sky must be acknowledged for having something more that others don’t. Perhaps it's the voice of Frank Breuninger, often reminiscent of Max Bacon (the singer of GTR to be precise), or maybe it's the double bass of drummer Uwe Mayer, making the tracks powerful to say the least, or perhaps it's the string sections by the excellent guitarist Stefen Doll, who with distorted chords or tapping flourishes knows how to make his presence felt, and bassist Winny Zurek, skilled mainly in backing vocals.

"Edge Of Time", released in 2002, is the band's best album, which has been pushing forward with much effort since the early '80s, finding a certain success in their homeland, Europe, and, incredibly, in the East.

I suggest you give it a listen, just to hear what they're like, and perhaps you'll find yourself using them as background music while you do something much more interesting.
