Spain, land of sun, sea, Latin rhythms... forget it. After just one listen to Luger’s second work "Concrete Light," it will be a distant memory, a crumpled postcard.
Luger lives in their own dimension where past and present blend perfectly. 70's Germany, kraut rock, space rock coexist with a current rock-solid psychedelia akin to Wooden Shjips, to name one, venturing into math rock territories, reminiscent of the geometric flights of Trans Am.
To avoid unnecessary wordplay, let’s listen to "Shirokovsky Pallasite I & II," starting from deep space, Can-like rhythms, NEU-style interference take the scene and as if nothing happened, derail into spacey distortions akin to a pre-senility Monster Magnet.
We listen to a hurried ride in the Neu style, suddenly, why not?, they decide to mess with the guitars... "Dracula Chauffeurs...". A bonus point for the track titles.
Tangerine Dreams closest to Earth's orbit are intercepted in "Hot Stuff".
With the finale "Zwisehenspiel/Quidquid Lated Apparebit" we dance an alien folk to Amon Dull, a mystical dance that slowly makes us sink into a swamp of free distortions bringing us back to reality.
In short, a pleasant surprise, nothing new, but certainly a perfect balance between the most cerebral kraut rock, the impetuosity of guitars, and a never intrusive singing that serves as a perfect bridge between the two musical worlds.
A work that could be appreciated by different audiences.
