THE REVIEW

We're back to talking about Dalla when he used to gift us with superlative albums, when his songs evoked real emotions and not farces like those of recent times.

The period between 1977 and 1980 was for him a magical era of great music and beautiful songs and stories, all told with his happy and biting flair of those times. In this 1980 album, Lucio perhaps offers his best performance, in all the songs he is at the peak of his expressiveness. "Balla balla ballerino" and "Futura" are the most famous songs from this album, but it is not on these already beautiful pieces that I wish to focus my and your attention. I prefer to turn to the Lucio Dalla of "Parco della luna", where the story of a rogue named Sonni Boi, born in Ferrara, is told who, despite his notorious reputation and tough life, finds himself in the park of the Moon with his woman Fortuna, or to the very sweet one of "Sera dei miracoli", an evening for lovers set in the alleys of Rome. "Mambo" is a story of love ended badly, with anger and sadness ("Non dormo da una settimana per quel cuore di puttana"), "Meri Luis", characters and performers: the director, the waiter boy, the star, the dentist, the taxi driver, the girl with big breasts for a cinema story, all "thrown into traffic" and with the director tired of waiting who tells the star and the others to "go to hell" with their personal stories of loneliness. "Cara" is perhaps one of Lucio Dalla's peaks, a fantastic ballad where good Lucio, at the end of the piece, performs one of his typical vocalizations, while "Siamo dei" is the only piece, beautiful anyway, that seems somewhat placed there as a divertissement. I have already said that about the other two songs everything and more has been already said and written, so it seems useless to elaborate further, they are still very current pieces, especially "Futura".

Great Lucio Dalla, where have you gone?

'Cara' is the most beautiful of the album, where Dalla's poetry becomes the promoter of an unexpected idea of a high poetic theme adapted to a hit parade song context.

'Futura' is a nocturnal yet sunny song that musically mimics a sexual act, capturing open optimism toward the future.
