1973. After "Il Mio Canto Libero," the seventh album of his career, "Il Nostro Caro Angelo," makes its appearance in record stores, heralded by the eponymous single.

An album that marks a turning point in the career of the singer from Poggio Bustone who begins to revolutionize the canons of Italian music through the use of new musical schemes, as can be seen already in La Collina Dei Ciliegi, a track that opens the album and was already part of the B-side of the single, which does not feature a real chorus but rather repeated pauses and changes of rhythm with the help of female voices echoed throughout the album, such as in Ma E' Un Canto Brasilero, a track that starts with a spoken intro that ends in a kind of rock rhythm where the artist mocks the world of advertising.

In La Canzone Della Terra, the listener is transported to rural places through the use of percussion and the words of a farmer. It is the most experimental track on the album, which precedes "Il Nostro Caro Angelo, an absolute masterpiece in Battisti's career with a hermetic and obscure text. The message of the song is to fight conventions and follow aspirations to avoid falling into the "lion's den."

Provocative is also Le Allettanti Promesse, which lashes out against the conformism of small provincial towns, and noteworthy is Questo Inferno Rosa, an intense and elaborate track that closes a sophisticated, revolutionary, and misunderstood album by the critics of the time.

"Il nostro caro angelo is an innovative album, full of brilliant musical ideas, unfortunately, however, full of experimental extremisms, sometimes weak and inconclusive."

"The music becomes more intense, undeniably harmonious, yet lacks the solidity and elegance that had made 'Umanamente uomo: il sogno' a masterpiece."

There are albums that stay with you forever, there are songs that imprint themselves in the collective imagination and others that are special only for you.

'Il nostro caro angelo' is the peak of the album, a song of immense beauty, a circular melody with a 'difficult' text composed of surreal images.

Where is he? I would like to know with all my heart. Not a message, not a word, not a stir, nothing.

He lives watching us. He feeds on roots and sleeps in the bushes under the trees.

I called myself a fool because underestimating something like this is foolish.

Battisti has always thought that music came before words, and here he fully demonstrates it, blending the two with astounding skill considering he was only 30 years old.
