"Diario Carboni" represents a significant milestone in Luca Carboni's artistic journey, and for some, even the tombstone of his career as a popstar. After the extraordinary success of "Carboni," the album of "Ci vuole un fisico bestiale," "Mare mare," and "La mia città," the record label RCA, with the production of Mauro Malavasi and Luca Lazzaris, opted for a particular collection that combines unreleased tracks, live songs, and remixed tracks. The main course is undoubtedly the unreleased tracks: "Faccio i conti con te" will endure even in subsequent concerts of the Bolognese; "Il mio cuore fa ciock," complete with a video where Luca leans against the wall, represents one of the most enjoyable moments of this "Diario," so-called because the packaging resembles a diary just as the album itself, where the different versions are akin to notes, not to provide a definitive idea of Carboni's production but rather a spontaneous one. The collaboration with Jovanotti in the previous year leaves its mark, in every sense, even here, with two duet tracks, which are "Vedo risorgere il sole" and "O è Natale tutti i giorni…" (the latter a cover of Extreme), and in the rap on "Le storie d'amore" called "Puttane e spose": "questa falsa distinzione tra puttane e spose…". There is also another friend of Luca, Ugo Rapezzi, to spice up this album with a track that isn't particularly irresistible, "Spider." As mentioned, there is room for remixes, with successful ones of "Mare mare," of course, it couldn't be otherwise, "Farfallina," and slightly less so on "Quante verità," a less known track in relation to the others, taken from "Persone silenziose" four years earlier. The tracklist closes with the live performances of five of Our artist's songs, the immortal "Ci stiamo sbagliando," in a shorter version than the one from 1984, the beautiful "Sarà un uomo," the sweet and then energetic "Vieni a vivere con me," the reflective "Primavera," and the wild "Ci vuole un fisico bestiale." "Diario Carboni" will lead Carboni to face, for the first time, a fully European tour, although he had already held some concerts in Germany, Switzerland, and Canada, and will try to offer it, with some success, beyond national borders. Additionally, his albums will always have a stable market even in the Netherlands.
However, as we were saying, for some it is the album of the end. Furthermore, to have a true "best of" collection, one will have to wait until 1999, when Luca will celebrate his first 15 years of career with "Il tempo dell’amore," 16 hits plus the eponymous song and the more successful "La mia ragazza," while to have a proper live collection, one will have to wait ten years, when, launched with the single "Settembre," a beautiful collection of 30 live tracks recorded between 1993-2003 will be released. Finally, Carboni will also venture into the thematic collection in 2007, with "Una rosa per te (36 canzoni d'amore)," 3 CDs introduced by three pieces he had written for Stadio between 1984 and 1986, namely "C’è," for which he will shoot a specific video, showing a girl running on a beach; "Dentro le scarpe," like the previous one included in the LP "La faccia delle donne"; and "Canzoni alla radio," one of the most beautiful songs Carboni wrote for other artists.
