With "Sopra le nuvole," the trumpeter and flugelhornist Luca Aquino from Benevento made his debut in 2006, under EmArcy, the jazz division of Universal.
Regarding Aquino and his team, Paolo Fresu shared excellent words that largely express a sentiment coinciding with mine. The album does not fear tradition but does not become its slave; it pays homage to the greats of jazz but often has a rock approach with even some brilliant pop insights. There is a forceful presence of both electronic contamination and refined experimentation. In "Sopra le nuvole" we find influences ranging from Miles Davis to Nils Petter Molvaer, from Freddie Hubbard to Jon Hassell, in an "entirely Italian poetics made of melody and timbre" on an inexorable swing. Incisive and enveloping timbre, intense sensations, evident talent, and sound that is an excellent synthesis of the greats of the genre: all the prerequisites for an excellent work. • The cyclist running with his tenor sax always in mind• Bossando with Mapà• Dancing With Sarè• La Stazione• You don't know• Sopra le nuvole• Soft Shoulders• Il crepuscolo della Dea• Van Laar Sounds• Ballad for Nhalì• Zeta• A• MiccettinaLoading comments slowly
