Formed in Pontypridd, Wales, in 1997 (initially under the name Lozt Prophetz), the band later became known as Lostprophets. Early demos emphasized rapcore and scratching; later releases moved toward radio-friendly rock.

Lostprophets were active from 1997 until 2013. The band disbanded in 2013 following criminal convictions of lead singer Ian Watkins.

Two DeBaser reviews (both by Gallagher87) praise Lozt Prophetz's early demos for their rapcore/nu‑metal energy, strong bass and scratching. The reviews highlight DJ Stepzak's role and Beastie Boys/Korn influences. Both lament the band's later shift toward radio pop/rock after lineup changes and the name change to Lostprophets.

For those who don't know, the Lozt Prophetz would later become Lostprophets, with a lineup significantly different in style and elements (the pivotal role of DJ Stepzak is crucial, who would leave the group in 2000), a past without hairspray on their hair and no radio pop/rock to speak of, the key element here is rapcore, with the duet of the newly-twenties Ian Watkins and Stepzak who, accompanied by the strong contribution of Nu Metal from the rest of the band, have fun and thrill in delivering fast, sharp, effective vocals mixed with melodic hardcore, all perfectly complemented by heavy scratching.
