Formed in Scotland in 1985 by Will Heggie (ex–Cocteau Twins) and Craig Lorentson after The Dead Neighbours; known for a hybrid of post-punk, dark wave, and dream pop. Key releases include Permanent Sleep, Diminuendo, Godhead, San Antorium, and Gush. Active into the late 1990s; Lorentson died in 2010.

Three DeBaser reviews sketch Lowlife as a Scottish cult band bridging post-punk darkness and dream-pop haze. Permanent Sleep and Diminuendo get strong praise for their melancholic depth. Godhead is seen as interesting but less affecting, with easier dream-pop turns and synth touches. References to Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, and Echo & The Bunnymen frame their sound.
