Foreword: I am a huge fan of Lou Reed.
I cried when I first listened to the masterpiece "Berlin" and I get deeply emotional every time I replay the live "Animal Serenade", which in my opinion, elevates Reed’s pieces to immortal status.
But this album, this strange abomination, I have never understood.
I bought it blindly many years ago to complete the discography of the "man from N.Y.," attracted by his gaunt figure on the cover and the fonts of the title that hinted at a precursor of industrial rhythms or mechanical shenanigans in rock sauce.
Once the disc was in the player, here comes the apocalypse: a medley of pure and simple noise; not the noise I love, not the "intended" noise I've learned to love over the years alongside the Japanese noise monsters, but a noise so unpleasant and pointless it triggers repeated panic attacks.
Skipping to the second track: even worse!
The same terrible dirge, like the screech of an out-of-tune castrato, repeating and repeating until the listener's neurons are completely fried.
I know all this might tickle the ears of "apocalyptic" enthusiasts, but I challenge anyone to find something good among the tracks of this solemn horror.
Reed himself once joked saying: "Anyone who reaches the second track is an idiot," therefore I am the idiot who forced myself to reach the third; only to then gift the CD to a dear friend of mine, with clear homicidal intent.
I would appreciate if you could explain to me what I missed, really, so please post your "interpretation" with the usual requests to go take a dump omitted, as I am genuinely interested in discovering what other people think of this "milestone."

"METAL MACHINE MUSIC is a vortex of induced irrationality, not a glam-naive recording."
It is repetition: time, trapped in itself. The serpent will never stop biting its tail.

Four sides of pure noise of feedback blown to the max.
The orchestral interpretation makes it all more anguished, perhaps even more human within possible limits.

Every time the needle drops, a shiver runs through me and electrifies the room.
For me, this album represents the most extreme, mature, irrational, sick rock'n'roll.

"Metal Machine Music represents the Rorschach test of modern music: everyone sees what they want to see."
I have the musical embarrassment to declare that I adore this album and listen to it with the same attention I reserve for Berg’s Wozzeck.

For me, this album remains unlistenable.
This album is nothingness! Total nothingness.
