The Profile

Longpigs were an English Britpop/alternative rock band from Sheffield. They released two studio albums—The Sun Is Often Out (1996) and Mobilehome (1999)—and scored notable singles including On and On, She Said, and Lost Myself. Guitarist Richard Hawley later pursued a successful solo career and worked with Pulp; vocalist Crispin Hunt fronted the group.

DeBaser reviews note label troubles delaying the debut, internal tensions (including an early drummer departure), and a serious car accident that left vocalist Crispin Hunt in a coma. Reviews praise the guitar-rock sound of the debut and cite airplay for “On & On,” while criticizing Mobilehome’s more electronic, pompous arrangements.

Two DeBaser reviews circle around Longpigs’ rise-and-fall arc. The 1996 debut The Sun Is Often Out is praised for guitar-driven Britpop with standout vocals and songwriting. The 1999 follow-up Mobilehome is criticized for pompous, electronic-leaning arrangements and uneven vocals. Reviews note label woes, a serious car accident for Crispin Hunt, and internal turmoil. The singles On and On and She Said emerge as touchpoints.
