THE REVIEW

"Sogno Ribelle" is the album with which I first discovered Litfiba.

Discovering Pelù, Renzulli & Co. with this CD and not with a masterpiece like "17 re" and without anyone ever informing me about how their musical journey had evolved up to 1992, was counterproductive for the image I unfortunately later formed of Litfiba after hearing albums like "17 re" and "Desaparecido". Litfiba, in my opinion, were an hard-rock band. The present "Sogno Ribelle" comes after "El Diablo", the album with which they started a musical journey decisively leaning towards hard rock; indeed, in 1993, "Terremoto", the "hard" (and beautiful) album of Litfiba, was released. In short... I immediately got to know the hard side of Litfiba, the easily comprehensible one, and thinking that they only made this type of music, when I heard songs like "Oro nero", "Pierrot e la luna" and "Istanbul" I was shocked. "THESE ARE NOT LITFIBA!", I thought. I was ignorant of the world of Litfiba made up of penetrating atmospheres, rhythm changes, and unease that I would only later discover, though not fully appreciate.

Having said this, I will briefly review (since there's not much to say) "Sogno Ribelle".

The CD contains an anthology of tracks from the period before '92 dressed up in hard rock. It would be useless to talk about better or worse moments as the CD is catchy and captivating and manages never to bore. "Eroe nel vento" here is performed only with Ghigo's guitar supporting Pelù's majestic voice shouting "Non sarò eroe, non sarei stato mai. Tradire e fuggire è il ricordo che resterà"; "Linea d'ombra" and "Bambino" are very fast, hard, and beautiful, "Ci sei solo tu" and "Cane" are in live version. Obviously, "Proibito", "Cangaceiro", "Tex", "Paname", and that sort of hit "El Diablo" do not look out of place either.

In short, I believe that with this album Litfiba wanted to self-celebrate all the good they had done up to that point, also foreshadowing their "terremotesque" transformation to their fans. I must say that they really succeeded very well!
