LA RECENSIONE

One of the most sought-after items for all record collectors, not just for "Litfiba" fans. "Luna / La preda" was released in May 1983 in 7" format on the "Fonit cetra" label.

This 45 RPM was pressed in a few thousand copies (some say even 500, making it even rarer than the previous 12" EP "Litfiba" from 1982, printed in 1050 copies, ed.) and it was the prize for the winning band of the "2nd Rock Festival" in Bologna, won by Litfiba ahead of the Catanese "Denovo" and the Florentine "Diaframma". The first thing that strikes us about this 7" is the cover... an elaboration by Pelù himself (known at the time as "Tradimento") of a photo by "Irvin Penn" (the original can be found here). The back is similar, changing the frame color from earthen red to purple, with the lyrics of the two songs printed on it.

The first of the two tracks is "Luna", an updated version of the preceding one already included in the aforementioned EP from 1982. The structure is similar to the previous one, except for the variation of the longer intro, where there is no longer just the guitar, but it already starts with drums and bass, with a disguised voice uttering words that, unfortunately, are still undeciphered. Piero's voice has become slightly more mature, Renzulli highlights his cream-colored Fender Stratocaster to the fullest, especially in the chorus "Noi conquisteremo la Luna". Keyboards and bass, respectively by Antonio Aiazzi and Gianni Maroccolo, also stand out fully. Compared to the previous edition, a stanza has been removed from the lyrics, specifically the one that says "terra di esseri, verdi e gelatinosi, figli della penombra e di già atrofizzati. E noi uomini li domineremo, li renderemo simili a noi..". This piece, omnipresent in setlists from 1981 to 1987, created some problems because it was liked by right-wing extremists, who responded with the Roman salute to the final phrase (repeated several times) "sarò re e un dittatore".

The B-side, on the other hand, features a new track, more obsessive: "La preda". A new track that talks about the duel between Pelù and his father, who would tell him "but where do you think you're going with music??" (in fact, part of the lyrics says "don't you hear that voice saying: where are you going??"); a piece characterized by a wonderful keyboard intro, with bass (wonderful), drums, and guitar gradually intensifying.

2 rare tracks (for which two promotional video clips were made), which are hard to find nowadays, except in later versions and still on CD today: "Luna" can be found in a live version on "12/5/87 - Aprite i vostri occhi", although it is very different, and "La preda" was re-recorded in a faster and definitely more effective version (and in my opinion much more beautiful) in the debut LP "Desaparecido" from 1985. It can also be found in two live versions, in "12/5/87 - Aprite i vostri occhi" and in "Lacio drom" from 1995.
