Year 1999: Litfiba mk II, or the duo Piero Pelù-Ghigo Renzulli, splits up, a victim of increasingly strong internal conflicts and an album "Infinito" that, alongside beautiful songs like "Il Mio Corpo Che Cambia" or "Vivere il Mio Tempo," featured unspeakable monstrosities of the caliber of "Mascherina" rather than "Sexy Dream" or "Frank." Pelù will go solo, which will bring him money in spades and albums almost horrifyingly on par with a random Ligabue, while Ghigo will continue the adventure with Litfiba, hiring the young and unknown singer Gianluigi "Cabo" Cavallo, with whom he will make three albums, all of really excellent quality, but unfortunately slammed by critics who no longer considered them "in," by sales continually declining and by the arrogance of fans, who already considered them dead and buried.
The three albums in question are "Elettromacumba" from 2000 (Cabo's fur coat in the title track video is unmissable), "Insidia" from 2001 (undoubtedly the best Italian rock album of the third millennium, featuring stratospheric pieces like "Mr. Hyde," "La Stanza dell'Oro" and the one-two finale "Luce Che Trema"-"Oceano"), and finally "Essere o Sembrare" from 2005 (nine simple, elegant and melancholic pop-rock songs, which now sound like a subdued and unheard swan song).
In 2003, right in between "Insidia" and "Essere o Sembrare," Litfiba released a song for the famous video game "Tomb Raider," titled "Larasong," for which a video was also made alternating images of the band with those of the legendary Lara Croft in action. This song is clear proof of how a GREAT BAND like Litfiba knew how to pull out of the hat, even for a shamelessly commercial purpose, a beautiful rock song full of charm and equipped with a very fitting riffing (after all, Ghigo Renzulli is still one of the simplest yet most effective guitarists on the planet). Even the lyrics of this little gem, although written on commission, are disturbing and poetic in the best Litfiba tradition; it is truly sad and unfortunate that the greatest rock band in Italian history faded amidst silence and general indifference.
What do you say? Litfiba with Cabo suck? Well, I inform you that you will go to hell where El Diablo will force you to endure "Toro Loco" and "L'Amore Immaginato" for all eternity!!!! BUAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
LISTEN TO LITFIBA.
