The Profile

Liquid Tension Experiment is an American instrumental progressive supergroup formed by John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, Jordan Rudess, and Tony Levin. They released two albums in 1998–1999, reunited live in 2008, and returned with LTE3 in 2021. Their music blends progressive metal, rock, fusion, and extended improvisation.

Founding members: John Petrucci (guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums), Jordan Rudess (keyboards), Tony Levin (bass/Chapman Stick). The first album was recorded in about a week and features the 28-minute improvisation Three Minute Warning. LTE2 leans more toward prog/fusion and less metal. LTE3 includes a reimagined Rhapsody in Blue and a bonus disc of pure improvisations.
