Few are the bands that survive from the genre known as Nu metal, which has now reached its retirement: Korn, System of a Down, Slipknot, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, and a bit from Hed Pe. In short, all the main names that truly had something to say; the rest are mostly pretty useless bands that have tried to ride the trend of the moment in a more or less commercial way, offering us a bad copy of the aforementioned names, which, having different sounds and styles among them, configure Nu metal more as a movement than as a genre.
The Bizkit from Jacksonville were more attached to the rap style compared to the others and gifted us with three excellent albums in my opinion, with which they also climbed the charts and whose peak was "Significant Other" (I know, for many they are rubbish), until they declined alongside the whole Nu metal genre in the early 2000s with the departure of the main creative mind (the guitarist Wes Borland, who later returned), followed by some negligible releases where however some pieces were saved.
They return almost by surprise on Halloween 2021 after an uninterrupted live career but ten years after "Gold Cobra" with an ironic title and even less desire to take themselves seriously because they know they are hated, they know they are mainly a "Revival" band and maybe even that they no longer have the inspiration they once had. For this reason, I believe that in reality, this is quite an honest record, recorded without too many pretensions, primarily the one of pleasing everyone.
However, this does not justify yet another album split in half: between successful pieces positioned mainly in the first part of the album opened by an "Out of Style" that makes its mark and other songs where inspiration is lacking, especially when they try to move into territories that do not belong to them, such as the ballads "Empty Hole", "Don't Change", but especially the embarrassing "Goodbye". As usual, there are also the more strictly Hip-Hop songs, "Snacky Poo" and "Turn It Up Bitch", surprisingly quite successful.
However, given both the duration of the album and the songs, it seems like we are facing drafts that, if better developed, might have been more enjoyable. I think it should be taken more as an EP to be listened to without commitment, perhaps recorded in a hurry. Nevertheless, even this time, they barely manage to pass because you hate them, but I find them likable.
