The Lilys are Kurt Heasley, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who bears more than a vague resemblance to the good old Malkmus.

There was a time when Heasley managed to carve in stone the references of his mini-album among those of the cornerstones of the indie movement. The game is simple: take "From a Motel 6" by Yo La Tengo and dilute it into the Pavement in a barely power-pop style.

The result is an album, this one, dated 1994, which effectively seals the transition from shoegazing sounds à la My Bloody Valentine from the earlier "In the Presence of Nothing," to the more guitar-driven and "collegiate" sounds of the two aforementioned bands.

An epic, still active, that of Heasley, which, despite the parabolic trend set in motion over recent years, undoubtedly deserves a proper rediscovery.
