THE REVIEW

Rome, Given this 30th of March 2006.

Venerated and dear Brethren,

this session of the Permanent Council takes place in the midst of the Lenten journey and on the day when we celebrate the solemn feast of St. Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary, guardian of our Redeemer, and patron of the universal Church: in a time, therefore, when we are particularly called to prayer, deepening of faith, conversion, and the renewal of heart and life. We ask the Lord to spend these days of work, reflection, and mutual communion in close union with Him, letting ourselves be guided in all things by His Holy Spirit to fulfill with fidelity and fruitfulness our common service to the people of God in Italy.

Our first thought, reverent and affectionate, as always turns to the Holy Father. On February 14th, he saw fit to confirm me, until otherwise arranged, as President of our Conference: in expressing my profound and filial gratitude to him, I wish to say also to you, dear Brethren, that I am about to embark on this last stretch of an already very long journey, always trusting in your goodness, in the fraternal bond that unites us, in your patience and indulgence towards my many limitations and sins.

I would like to make my own the words spoken by the Holy Father on Friday, March 17th, addressing the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, concerning the "urgent necessity to support and uphold marriage and family life" by social communications and the entertainment industry, presenting "edifying models of life and love," especially to young people, and not instead "false or unfounded expressions of love, which ridicule the dignity of the human person ... and undermine the interests of the family."

And here is where the donkey falls.
Let's take, for example, this musical group that has been on the Showbiz scene for years, self-proclaimed "The Family of the House of Light." A beautiful name in itself for a musical group, resounding and grandiloquent that makes the sense of how the Family should be conceived Today strong and high. It's just a pity that in the duo there is a no... a "blemish"... in short, a foreigner with a face more Middle Eastern than Christian and therefore much closer to an Islamic creed than anything else.
But so it is, if this were the crux of the matter, it would already be a lot.
The real problem is that this group, which presents itself with a name so inspired by our lofty Christian Values of reference, well, this group is made up of... listen, listen, by a duo of men. Not like the Eurythmics or the White Stripes, still understandable (man-woman, man-woman, all normal... yes okay, except for a small doubt on the latter two whether they are siblings or spouses, anyway "details").

So, dear brothers, I don't know if I have made myself clear yet.
Here we are faced with two men (one of whom is rather brown, albeit slightly) who profess themselves "family" and on this, I cast a merciful veil on the orientation and direction this society wants to take, perpetually focused on undermining the foundations of this fundamental cornerstone of our future.

What kind of family can this ever be with two men?
I don't even dare to think when they're cozy in their big bed... brrr, what horror, and away from me any possible interpretation of easy roguery!

Turning for a moment to the purely musical part, these two reappear with a greatest hits of their whole sweet, chic, and sugary pop-easy listening production, like a classic boy band, so much so that it is no longer clear whether the works belong to one group or another. And for heaven's sake! Cute songs for parish parties (see for example "Lost in Space," a real hit song from months ago) that appear to be INNOCUOUS but in reality, deeply undermine the moral integrity of our youngsters who associate the two characters with the term "family," running the risk of portraying the sacred institution as something light, easy, and very superficial, good only for teenage romantic petting and little more.
Thus exposing themselves to the likes of Capezzoni and company, who are just waiting to strike. Those sons of a... well, let's leave it.

Brothers, it is useless to tell you that We cannot take a clear and unequivocal position on matters of politics and customs that involve another State. This is clear and has never been questioned. However, we can only strongly advise you NEVER TO ORIENT YOURSELVES to the left and maybe NOT TO FUND FAKE-MUSICAL PRO-PACS GROUPS, sponsored by radicals or Bertinotti movements, born with the sole intent of DESTROYING THE VERY CONCEPT OF FAMILY ALL HOME AND CHURCH, which has secured us our daily bread for years and years and you that minimum of psychological tranquility that, let's tell the truth, you lack indeed, Right?!.
Come on, then.
For heaven's sake.
Let's all regulate ourselves together. It takes so little to earn a corner of Paradise that it seems almost impossible you don't get there on your own.

Um... sorry if I got carried away... let me sit down to catch my breath... there... now it's better.

Thus.
Dear Brethren, let's now conclude this Lenten journey with before us the light (the TRUE one, not that of these damn duo of mmm... well, you understand) of the resurrection of our only Savior and entrust these days to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, her spouse Joseph, and the Saints and Saintesses venerated in our Churches.
Thank you for your listening and for whatever you wish to observe and propose (maybe a little fast because in early April the games close!).

Yours, always yours, very strongly yours
                                  Card. Camillo Ruini.
