THE REVIEW

Liars - Jail Legnano 28-04-06

The last time they were in this area was the summer of last year in Turin, preceded by Art Brut.

There are many valid reasons to revisit the group from New York once again. In Turin, the Liars amazed with their very free way of presenting and representing themselves. They stood out more for their iconoclastic role than for the music. Here at the Jail, we encountered a seminal group where the Bad Seeds are reinterpreted. The percussion and drums of "Drum's Not Dead" live transform into an assault rendered in a psychedelic key through the repetitive loop usage of rhythm and Angus's slurred voice.

A more attentive concert, almost polished in details because "Drum's Not Dead" is a refined, cultured album. Watch the video tracks on the DVD included with the album and you will realize it. The percussion, the simple rhythm marking with drumsticks, are not gratuitous but substantial. The most extraordinary fact is that the pieces sound different while maintaining the soul, the unaltered structure. If the album is about control, here the handbrake is released in favor of physicality.

We will hear more about them. The adventure of the Liars is just beginning.

Liars

Liars are an American experimental rock band formed in 2000, widely described as stylistically restless: early punk-funk/post-punk roots give way to tribal, noise-driven and later more electronic approaches, with frontman Angus Andrew frequently highlighted in reviews for a shamanic, physical presence.
