THE REVIEW

This self-produced EP (in a very limited edition, 50 copies) consisting of 5 tracks (4 originals + 1 alternative version of the second piece) turns out to be overall a "raw" work, but with excellent ideas that can be a springboard for future sound evolutions of the "creature".

The main flaw of the album lies in the different productions carried out on the tracks, which somewhat complicates my judgment and that of anyone who will listen to it later. In fact, these 5 pieces were recorded in 3 different studios, which is noticeable in the different arrangements and results in a lack of consistency in terms of sounds and ideas... the best pieces are definitely the first two “Nostalgie Catartiche,” the title track, and “Alito Divino.”
The first one draws heavily from a certain type of Italian songwriting with acoustic guitar and electric reverbs, without drums, with an excellent text and a crescendo that demonstrates the neo-melodic qualities of its author. “Deficiente imberbe/come note di primavera/il desiderio di accettazione/per una vita inutile” this is the chorus of the piece which proves to be endowed with a certain emotional pathos.

The second, on the other hand, is very dark and strongly depressive (somewhat indebted to the dark wave ’80s movement) with two overlapping voices and very good dark metal-style solos that add a touch of class to the composition. “Valium” and “Mup” are two pieces that register a slight drop in inspiration due to less refined production.. with synthesizers sometimes placed a bit randomly, surely better could have been done in terms of the overall idea of both pieces.
The 5th piece “Alito Divino (alternative version)” neither adds nor detracts from the overall result of this at times well-done and at times imperfect EP, what is proposed as an observation and not a criticism is that the ideas are there, perhaps they should be better "channeled", but this is quite natural considering this is the first work of the “Lexus” project.
