LA RECENSIONE

Hooligans (2005), by Lexi Alexander, starring Elijah Wood. I don’t want to be vulgar, but: it’s a colossal failure (quoting the great one). The little shit elf, because that’s how we remember him (Lord of the Rings fanatics, spare me the “he’s not an elf!”), in this movie is unwatchable. He’s just not cut out to play the role of the good guy who gets led astray by the Tyler Durden of the situation (because that’s Pete Dunham, except instead of fighting for sport, he fights for sports). Although it must be said that this is perhaps the only character interpreted decently (by Charlie Hunnam, the one from Sons Of Anarchy). The story is incredibly unbelievable (there are absurd scenes; anyone who has ever, not even participated but at least witnessed a fight, will be slightly embarrassed) and clichéd, except for the ending, which saves it a bit, but it reeks of a happy American movie. Then, of course, you can view it from a social standpoint, a denunciation, an analysis of these young people who blah blah blah blah. Essentially, they are very troubled individuals, full of problems, who beat each other senseless. Interesting, but I fail to see where the novelty lies.

Summary by Bot

Lexi Alexander's 2005 film Hooligans is criticized for weak acting, especially by Elijah Wood, and an unbelievable, clichéd storyline. Charlie Hunnam stands out as the only decent actor. Although the ending slightly improves the film, the overall experience is disappointing. The film attempts social commentary but fails to bring any novelty.
