The Profile

Levitation were an English neo-psychedelic/alternative rock band formed in London in 1990 by former House of Love guitarist Terry Bickers. They released Need for Not (1992) and later disbanded in 1994; the shelved second album Meanwhile Gardens was issued in 2015.

Core members included Terry Bickers (vocals/guitar), Dave Francolini (drums), Laurence O’Keefe (bass), Christian ‘Bic’ Hayes (guitar), and Robert White (keys/guitar). Their sound fused psychedelic and progressive elements with shoegaze textures. Tim Smith of Cardiacs co-produced Need for Not. Notable track: “Smile”.

A vivid, enthusiastic remembrance of Levitation’s early-’90s impact, centered on the album Need for Not. The review celebrates their neo-psychedelic/progressive edge, standout musicianship (especially drums and guitars), and links to The House of Love and Cardiacs. Strong praise for tracks like Smile and a track-by-track appreciation. Overall sentiment is admiring and invitational.
