Looking at the artwork and tracklist, one might think Let Them Fall is a viking/folk metal band, a notion that is promptly dispelled once you hit play. Yes, because this Grosseto-based band seems more inclined toward a modern sound, which we might easily bypass by calling it metalcore but, in truth, it only partially fits this description when compared to many of their peers in the field. What strikes you about this quintet is the meticulousness placed in every single aspect, from the sophistication of the lyrics (focused on Norse mythology) to the uniqueness of the artwork and promotional videos. Musically, they deftly navigate what the new wave of core from the other side of the ocean has to offer nowadays, standing out, however, for the quality of their songwriting where — amid riffs and breakdowns — high-quality guitar solos and a continuous search for soundscapes suitable for the lyrics shine. An interesting point can be found in the singing, where we find vocalist Rita D'Aniello perfectly at ease in the scream phases and a second voice — that of guitarist Gabriele Catoni — which in its melodic phases, however, fails to break the reins of the game, moderating at times the energy unleashed by tracks like “Midgard” and “Skoll.” In conclusion, we can say that “Wolftales” is indeed a more than successful product, which highlights the band's good technical/artistic qualities and that maturity which has not yet been fully achieved.
