Introduction:
I become a beast when I hear someone say that Lenny Kravitz is just a commercial product, created solely with the intent to sell and make money. Then I start laughing because I realize that those who say such things know nothing about the artist in question. They don't know that like all emerging artists, he used to go around playing his music with his acoustic guitar at the beginning when he had nothing. The success he had was well-deserved. It's true that from "5" onwards, his music isn't the same, but I don't believe that he sold out. I think that a 40-year-old man has grown tired of wasting his life following the stupid rockstar rule... sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Instead, he prefers to live his life focused on his daughter and love. Does that mean he sold out? Or that he became softened? No, I believe he's just a wiser and more aware man... maybe (and I believe so too) his music isn't the same and is more commercial, but I think that's a more human intent than a material one...
After all this, however, I want to talk to you about a 1995 Lenny album... Circus, the work preceding the much-discussed "5". It's an intriguing album unknown to the masses, always in the shadow of a harsh and acidic rock, where Lenny shows all the dirtiness of living as a superstar. The most representative example of the entire work is the title track, a song that drags on a repetitive and decadent riff, until it strips you of every positive emotion, and in the end, you agree with him... this world sucks!!!
"Rock And Roll Is Dead," is a 360° rock song, revolving in Lenny's usual style from previous albums, "Tunnel Vision" you can imagine for yourself what it's about... and at a certain point, he sings..."I don't need a doctor/to tell me what to do/'cause I know I'm going"...thus involving us in his first illness... namely drugs! And then he tells us what's the second even more devastating one... love...
And so, on these terms, the entire album flows, describing a man worn out by success and fame, but thanks to this downfall, he churns out a beautiful album like this, inspired and lived, demonstrating to all his only true hope and faith which is God... in "God Is Love"... a typical "cut your veins" song that makes the soul vibrate...
Tired and sick after this work, Lenny will never be the same again... maybe that's what Circus was for... to empty him of all his fears and anxieties.
With this, I close the chapter on my favorite male artist and his album that I prefer, thank you and if you didn't like this review, Amen... I had to do it for me!!!
The beautiful and magnificent, phantasmagoric Lenny Kravitz has opted for the second solution.
Like Prince, Lenny is a genius musician, and with him, he shares not only the color of his skin but also the ability to be devilishly sexy.
