I Legittimo Brigantaggio, are a folk/combat folk-inspired music band from the southern Lazio region, full of energy that presents this genre as an alternative artistic expression in the new Italian musical landscape. Listening to the debut work of these young people from Latina and reading the title, it becomes immediately clear that they aim to evoke feelings of passion, love, and sentiments of anger.
"Without too many preliminaries", without too many embellishments, they strike through language and music as in "Colpo grosso all'Asinara", the highest point reached in the album, featuring Stefano Fiori from Ratti Della Sabina. A track with a strong polemic vein that criticizes the misconduct of Italian politics (especially these days). The album also features other important voices, noteworthy contributions from the Italian folk-rock scene in recent years. There's Marino Saverini from the Gang, who recites and narrates his "La lotta dell'Inverno"; Enrico Capuano on vocals in "Piccola leggenda" ("people tremble dressed in terror, slyly tremble at the dreamer's passage"); Sebastiano Ciccarelli from the Pomigliano d'Arco workers' group "E Zezi" in "Tutto è merce", "Tammurriata dei carcerati", and "Alla macchia"; and again Roberto Billi from Ratti della Sabina in "Le scatole parlanti".
"Without too many preliminaries" is an album out of time, detached from modernity that flows inexorably, yet at the same time an album with a fresh spirit, a combat folk with ironic touches always balancing between ancient archaic images, suggestions, and more contemporary revisitations. The album tracks flow smoothly between trumpet blasts, banjos, fluttering clarinets, tambourines, strings ("La notte del destino") accordions that serve as a backdrop to a traditional-flavored village party ("Branko"), the connection with their own land with the Pontine dialect ("Firmamenti a catene"). There’s Naples tinged with the East ("Alla macchia"). These are all stories and images of forgotten places. It is this very sense of place and the popular rich in suggestions that supports the foundation of the album. Their language is truly more refined compared to most folk groups, for the sophistication of their lyrics and the fluidity of their musical language (with imaginative arrangements). The impression is very good, from the first listening. I Legittimo Brigantaggio form a group that holds much promise, very cohesive in the name of intelligent music, and today they represent an emerging, gritty, and eclectic new musical reality with a constant desire to invite reflection, even with strong doses of irony.
