Sabatino re-evaluates Kasdan's The Big Chill: initially hailed as a masterpiece for acting and soundtrack, later seen as increasingly implausible and emotionally manipulative. The review praises the soundtrack but criticizes characterisation and what the author calls pandering to a generation. Overall rating: 2/5.

For:film enthusiasts, critics, fans of 1980s American cinema

When I first saw "The Big Chill," I hailed it as a masterpiece: the actors were exceptionally in tune and exuberant, the screenplay well-written, the direction experienced and attentive to weighing each character so that the ensemble cast appears balanced, and then there's the soundtrack, which is perhaps one of the most beautiful among non-original scores in history.
