THE REVIEW

The new album by the Australian musician (previously active in the avant hip hop scene under the name Object) continues along the same path that Lawrence English had already guided in the previous "Happiness Will Befall".

The main theme, as well as the work practice adopted, is that of the journey; in fact, the sound sources were conceived in various geographical locations (European and Asian), from which he drew inspiration and concrete sounds. The evident problem with "For Varying Degrees Of Winter" is that the various degrees of winter referenced in the title never manifest, the shifts in coordinates on the earth's hemisphere neither, and the textures all tend to flatten into ambient digressions scented with a microelectronics of rarefied and melancholic movements occasionally tainted by "little noises".

This is an album that fails to live up to its promises, that irreparably bores, and that does not express anything of significance.

Summary by Bot

Lawrence English's album 'For Varying Degrees Of Winter' continues his ambient style with sounds recorded across Europe and Asia. However, the review criticizes the album for lacking the promised thematic shifts and variation, resulting in flat, melancholic soundscapes. It concludes that the album fails to deliver meaningful content and ultimately bores the listener.
