The Profile

Latte e Miele are an Italian symphonic progressive rock band formed in Genoa in 1971 as a trio of Marcello Giancarlo Dellacasa, Oliviero Lacagnina, and Alfio Vitanza. Their debut concept album, Passio Secundum Mattheum (1972), blends baroque elements, jazz touches, and ELP-inspired prog. They later revisited the work as Passio Secundum Mattheum – The Complete Work with new arrangements and guests.

Passio Secundum Mattheum (1972) narrates the Passion of Christ with baroque arrangements, jazz elements, and ELP-style sections; it was presented at the Pontifical Oratory Theater of St. Peter in the Vatican in 1973. The Complete Work was released by Black Widow (Genoa), produced by Aldo De Scalzi, includes new arrangements, modern recording, and seven previously unreleased tracks; features Coro Polifonico Classe Mista and GnuQuartet, plus spoken parts by guests; dedicated to Don Gallo.

Two reviews focus on Latte e Miele’s symphonic prog roots and their concept album Passio Secundum Mattheum. The 1972 original blends baroque, jazz, and ELP-styled prog, with highlights and some structural criticisms. The band later revisited it as The Complete Work with new arrangements, guests, and modern recording. The 1973 Vatican presentation is noted.
